There are two main kinds of tradtional Nuaulu music, kapata and ahinaya. Drums are the only musical instruments used to accompany singing. They are always used with ahinaya and sometimes used with kapata. Ahinaya are only sung to accompany the kahuae dance. Kapata can be sung anywhere at any time.
